THE RUSSIAN THEATRE OF ESTONIA: GUEST PEFORMANCE

A musical performance about the fates and works of poets of the early twentieth century. About their friendship and muses, literary discoveries and secrets. The element of the performance is creative and human freedom, boundless fantasy. In the play by Esther Bol, both the biographies of the poets and writers and their poetic texts are intertwined, not only those of Harms’s, but also ones of his closest literary circle’s. The performanceincludes a lot of music – the author of all the compositions is Alexander Zhedelyov – and songs, performed by actress Marika Otsa. The theatrical "picture", the stage design (the artist and set designer - Inga Silina), is based on the bright style of a circus, the stylish colorful costumes (the costume designer - Baiba Litiņa) create the impression of a performance, behind the external brilliance of which there is life, and tears, and love...

According to the creators, this production corresponds to today and the feelings of people in the modern world. Inside each of us, there is a lot of sun. Almost a hundred years ago, poets, young people tried to escape from the fear through creativity, to hide from the horrors of the totalitarian times. When so many uncontrollable events are happening in the world, the people focus on what they can influence. And often it is the creative side of life – it is the very feeling of an almost childish play and invention that becomes a salvation. It is never scary to play. “I think it is very much in tune with what we are all doing today, when we know what is happening in the world,” the staging director offered.

“Lots of Sun” is a general stage image that is in tune with how people feel today. A cross-section of our days. About how to preserve the meaning of life, when the familiar world is rapidly changing. “While we play and while the audience plays with us, time seems to stop - and in this stop in time, a little life, a little joy appears, which for someone can be salvation,” said Dmitry Petrenko.

The production involves a young active generation of actors. Their energy is perfectly combined with the amazing love of life of the characters, with their courage and maximalism. Kharms and other poets were criticized, cancelled, but they continued to live, laughing, in their own world of free art. No external circumstances could break their will to live and play. And they themselves understood that, calling their works "poems, behind which you can hide". And who among us does not "hide" from adversity, failures, and injustices – in something they sincerely love?
