THE RUSSIAN THEATRE OF ESTONIA: GUEST PEFORMANCE
A sharp play about childhood, growing up and life's difficulties that can be equally destructive at any age. How to avoid dangerous reefs, who or what can keep youth from destructive passions and self-destruction? The answer is simple – all of us, if we are not indifferent. And the theater too, since it has in its arsenal the convincing truthfulness of artistic narration.
The play begins and ends with a separation: the father separates from the mother, and the son leaves the family in the finale. Children do not always accept the world that adults have created for them, even if it seems ideal and harmonious. The nerve of the story lies in a few important questions: why does a person so quickly and so easily forget, how difficult it is to be a growing teenager? Why does a person treat his child completely differently from how he wanted to be treated by his father at the time? At what point do we, as adults, “turn into” our own parents? How can we reach out to a loved one, how can we be heard? And what do children expect from their parents at this difficult age, which is full of deep contradictions.
The drama of misunderstanding traumatizes both sides of its participants. Youth have many temptations to overcome suffering in the easiest way – with alcohol and drugs, which ultimately only multiplies the parents' pain. The play is a piercing call to get closer to the loved people. Only moving towards each other promises salvation. Was I a good father? – the main character asks himself and understands that he has missed something important – the growing up of his son, because he thought too much about "the customary way to raise children". In the production, an honest and important conversation about life will be accompanied by relevant youth music, which best reflects the rebellious and uncompromising spirit of youth. This is a story about children and parents and for children and parents.
