THE RUSSIAN THEATRE OF ESTONIA: GUEST PEFORMANCE
The story of one (noble) robber.
The famous wandering plot about Robin Hood. A quarrel between two old friends-landowners, Dubrovsky Sr. and Troyekurov, accidentally changes their friendly relations. A story full of Shakespearean passions – the children of feuding families fell in love with each other. She is a young lady, brought up on French novels, he is a nobleman-robber, forced to fight for the restoration of justice by illegal means. Just like today, petty grievances, inflated vanity and pride tragically determine the fate of people.
Just like two centuries ago, the themes touched upon in "Dubrovsky" are acutely relevant in the modern society: the protection of human dignity, the power of love and forgiveness. According to director Sergey Golomazov, the main nerve of the performance is the self-awareness of a person, living in a very unfair world, and the inner need to protect or return what was destroyed by rivals, the judicial system or social structure.
The staging director does not hide his sympathy for the main character: despite the fact that Vladimir Dubrovsky is a robber, he fights against human, social, and moral injustice in a knightly romantic way. Because he cannot do otherwise. And love for the daughter of the man, who had humiliated him, was able to awaken mercy in him...
