Fools do not feel the circumstances.
They do everything in the most pleasant way
even in the most unacceptable situations.
Because a fool is always a poet...

F. Veber

Francis Veber (born in 1937 .) – French playwright, screenwriter and film director. Famous for his films “Tall blond in the black shoe”, «Unlucky ones», “Fugitives”, «Fathers»).

The c omedy «Fools’ Dinner» was written in 1991.The play invites us to see the strange ways of Pier Broshan and his friends. They are collectors. They collect…idiots. Every Wednesday the company of young aristocrats organize a dinner, to which the members have to bring one idiot. A person, whose idiot turns out to be the most believable wins the game. At that evening it was Pier’s turn to bring a guest, and what a guest he brought!

Basically, the main idea of the production is that everything in our lives is conditional – you can never know which of us is a fool. What is the meaning of “smart” and “fool”? I hope that, after attending this production, viewers will understand that. What if they will not understand? Very good, if they will get confused - they will have a subject to think about.

At least two or three preconditions would guarantee the success of any new production. “Fools’ Dinner” has four preconditions - a good author, comedy without banalities or a taste of cheapness, a good director and professional actors.

F. Veber introduces us to the next “Wednesday night’s” guest – Francois, the tax inspector, played by excellent characterizer Yakov Rafalson. Well-known Roman Kozak considers form very important, therefore the ensemble of seven actors is subjected to the principle of preparation for conditions, an interesting development of each episode.

Francis Veber is undoubtedly a master of his represented genre. Sparkling comedy, farce, which leads to the absurd - these are the genres, in which F.Veber reaps the fruits of his mastery. “Fools’ Dinner” is no exception.

When I saw Yakov Rafalson on the stage, playing the title role, I wanted to exclaim the words of a classic: “Daddy, you're a poet, a true poet!”. The role of Francois is an actor’s great success. The whole ensemble of actors is good: Boris Ploskikh, Igor Chernyavsky, Alexander Polishchuk, Dmitry Paleyes, Tatyana Lukashenkova, Olga Nikulina. Kozak has staged a stylish production.
